Talking at the Table
Dinner doesn't have to end with "how was school" and a one-word answer. Some of the best conversations happen when you ask something a little different, something that gets your kid actually thinking instead of just answering out of habit.
That's the idea behind these conversation starters. They're not about drugs, or school, or anything heavy. They're just good questions, the kind that get your child talking about their dreams, their fears, their daydreams, the future they're imagining for themselves. And that's exactly the point. Kids who feel comfortable talking openly with their parents about the little things tend to feel more comfortable coming to them for the big things too.
You don't need all of them. Pick one, ask it over dinner, and see where it goes. Some nights you'll get a one-sentence answer. Other nights you'll be surprised by how much your kid actually wanted to say.
