Youth Mental Health, Depression, and Suicidal Ideation
At San Juan County Prevention Action Collaboration (SJCPAC), we are dedicated to raising awareness and providing resources to address the mental health challenges faced by young people in our community. Mental health issues such as depression and suicidal ideation can deeply affect youth, and we recognize the importance of supporting young people and their families in recognizing the signs, seeking help, and building resilience.
Our Approach to Supporting Youth Mental Health:
- Raising Awareness: We work to educate teens, parents, and community members about the signs and symptoms of mental health struggles, including depression and suicidal thoughts. Understanding the early warning signs is crucial in helping youth get the support they need.
- Providing Resources: SJCPAC connects youth and families to vital mental health services and resources. Whether through local counseling centers, hotlines, or school-based programs, we ensure that those in need know where to turn for support.
- Prevention and Education Programs: We offer programs that teach coping skills, emotional regulation, and strategies for managing stress and anxiety. By equipping youth with tools to navigate difficult emotions, we help prevent mental health crises before they escalate.
- Fostering a Supportive Environment: Through community events, peer support initiatives, and outreach efforts, we work to create a safe, understanding environment where youth feel comfortable talking about their mental health. We encourage open conversations about depression and suicide prevention to reduce stigma and provide support.
- Collaboration with Schools and Families: We partner with local schools, parents, and mental health professionals to ensure that youth have a network of care. Together, we work to build a community where mental health is prioritized, and youth are empowered to reach out when they need help.
At SJCPAC, we believe that every young person deserves to feel supported and valued. By addressing youth mental health, raising awareness about depression and suicidal ideation, and providing critical resources, we strive to create a community where youth can thrive and find hope.
